RESOURCES & SERVICES ::: Alternatives to Family Violence
COMMUNITY PARTNERS
Alternatives to Family Violence, Inc. is dedicated to utilizing traditional and nontraditional partnerships to maximize the resources available to the women and children we serve and to maximize our collective effort to end violence.
Traditional partnerships include our cooperative arrangements with other Front Range Safehouses, Access Housing, Project Safeguard, Stout Street Clinic and the Salud Clinic, Platte Valley Medical Center, who offer services we do not.
We also work closely with nonprofits serving specialized populations including the Asian Pacific Development Center, Colorado Anti-Violence Program (that works primarily with Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender communities), and Domestic Violence Initiative, (specializing in working with victims of violence with disabilities). Staff also participates in Adams County Housing Taskforce; Commerce City Business and Professional Association; Brighton Cultural Committee; North Adams County Social Service network meetings; Adams County Family Violence Prevention Committee; 17th Judicial District Domestic Violence Taskforce; Metro Denver Domestic Violence Fatality Review and Latina Outreach meetings, insuring our community stays familiar with Alternatives and that we are aware of any expansions, decreases or changes in local resources.
New nontraditional partnerships include WIC, Little Giants Daycare, Tri County Health, Comcast Cable, a local plumbing union and the Intergenerational Learning Center and Colorado State University. Through our partnership with Little Giants Daycare, Alternatives staff can provide onsite counseling to children and their mothers in a safe environment.
Comcast Cable, TriCounty Health and the local plumbing union provides educational training presentations for the women at Safehouse on building a resume, interviewing and opportunities for well paying careers.
Colorado State University Extension office, Tri County WIC and Alternatives to Family Violence have partnered to create and receive funding for the Family Success in Adams County Program which incorporates over 30 service organizations designed to provide education and support for families and single individuals who have not yet entered relationships. This program will offer financial, parenting, healthy relationships and child safety education at no charge to over 200 individuals in the next 3 years.
The Safehouse, Community Outreach & Support, and Administrative staff at Alternatives reflect the diversity of the community we serve, which allows us to treat residents and outreach clients in a holistic manner that identifies and illuminates the complicated realities of their lives, their intersection with violence, and the diverse social factors that impact their experience. Alternatives is constantly expanding programs along with traditional and non-traditional community partnerships in order to serve Safehouse residents and outreach clients by identifying and seeking to minimize the external conditions, pressures, norms, and practices that exacerbate the dangers to a battered woman.
